Sake cup set made from ‘Yasuda Tiles’, with a distinctive silver-mouse colour and wrinkles.
Yasuda Tiles are a regional brand of Agano City, Niigata Prefecture, Japan's northernmost roof tile production area,
Yasuda tiles are made using the reduction firing method, where they are fired at temperatures of over 1200°C. These tiles are designed for use in snowy and cold regions, where they have low water absorption, excellent heat insulation and cold resistance.
When serving hot or cold sake, they are easy to handle as sake vessels as the temperature does not easily transfer to the hand, and they are also hard and durable.
The silver-grey lustre and the wrinkles caused by the glaze are mysterious and create a different kind of drinking experience.
- Features
- ■ Yasuda roofing tiles
Yasuda tiles are a local brand of Agano City, Niigata Prefecture, the northernmost tile-producing region in Japan, and are traditional tiles that have been made since around 1843. These tiles are made using the "reduction firing method," which fires them at high temperatures of over 1,200 degrees, making them less absorbent and more insulating and cold-resistant, making them suitable for snowy, cold regions. They are also known as silver tiles, and feature a lustrous silver-gray color, with a rich, elegant hue that has been polished over the years, and the natural color of the iron glaze makes them stand out among the many tiles available throughout Japan.
*Since the finish is designed to leave glaze wrinkles, there will be individual differences such as wrinkles.
